Grading
The Director of the FYE is listed as the instructor of record for ID 202, but the
grade for ID 202 is determined by the FYE faculty leading the Scribner Seminar and
is based on how well the Peer Mentor fulfills the expectations listed above and any
other criteria that are agreed upon by the faculty and their Peer Mentor prior to
the start of fall classes.
FYE faculty should clarify whether and how much each of the following will bear on the ID 202 grade:
- Participation in class discussion,
- Coordination of trips or special projects,
- Review sessions for exams or other assignments,
- Fourth hour presentations and/or discussion facilitations,
- Other requirements.
Broadly speaking, the Peer Mentor is expected to serve as a social and academic role model for the students in the seminar. Additional guidelines are available in the Peer Mentor Handbook and the FYE Faculty Handbook. Faculty and the Peer Mentor should discuss these expectations prior to the fall semester. The Faculty鈥擯eer Mentor contract is provided as a resource to guide these conversations.
